Once There Was a Time

                        Bonjour tout Le Monde.
Et Bienvenue
Good evening everyone
And welcome to
Tonight's performance so let's begin it.
It's a couple hours give or take a minute.
It's got all kinds of neat stuff in it.
Music and rhyme.
It's showtime!
Time is a mystery
Time is a history.
Though what we do with it
Might seem a crime.
There's sure to be a lot we miss
But you can be sure of this.
You're bound to meet a separatist
In Troubadours through time.
Once there was a time
When a poor young minstrel
Depended for his livelihood
On "La Noblesse"
The nobility on which he depended
Had to be amused but not offended.
Or he would be by his thumbs suspended.
(This led to a condition known as pre-minstrel stress.)
Medieval chants, sycophants
Anti-popes and telescopes
Raspberries, Siamese
A song of the seas
Rock and roll, flagpoles
May Queens, guillotines
A microphone, an anglophone.
A troubadour through time.
Once there was a time
When I had a waistline
Once there was a time
When I had hair
All we're trying to do is earn our wage
And not bump into stuff upon the stage
We will spend some time in the middle age
After all
We were there!
Routines, tambourines
Slapsticks, linguistics
Bluebirds, lots of words
Some of them absurd
Graffiti-ists, communists
Federalists, Monarchists
An old man, a plowman
A Troubadour through time.
